Coldplay

Coldplay é uma banda de rock pós-britpop formada em 1998 em Londres, Inglaterra, conhecida por suas músicas melancólicas e depressivas, com letras introspectivas.

O Coldplay possui uma sonoridade próxima a de outros artistas como Radiohead, Oasis, Jeff Buckley e Travis. Outras influências são U2, R.E.M, Pink Floyd, John Lennon, The Smiths, Sparklehorse, The Stone Roses, Tom Waits, The Flaming Lips, Neil Young, Echo and the Bunnymen e, mais recentemente, Johnny Cash e Kraftwerk. Cash foi inclusive convidado pela banda a gravar uma música pendente, mas morreu antes de fazê-lo.

Desde o lançamento de A Rush of Blood to the Head, seu segundo disco, o Coldplay tem também apoiado várias causas políticas. Eles têm advogado pela campanha "Make Trade Fair" da Oxfam e pela Anistia Internacional. A banda também participou de vários projetos de caridade como o "Band Aid 20", o "Live 8" e o "Teenage Cancer Trust". Chris Martin também protestou contra a invasão do Iraque e apoiou John Kerry.

Curiosidades
* Violet Hill, o novo single da banda inglesa Coldplay, foi baixado por mais de 600 mil pessoas desde que foi disponibilizado no dia 29 de Maio de 2008, às 12h da Inglaterra.
* O Coldplay lançou uma segunda versão do vídeo de Violet Hill, em chefes de estado e políticos como George W. Bush, Tony Blair, Fidel Castro, Barack Obama e Hilary Clinton dançam ao som da banda.
* O quarteto inglês visitou igrejas góticas de Barcelona para gravar vocais para o seu novo álbum, "Viva La Vida".
* Chris Martin se formou em violão e tem tocado em bandas desde os 15 anos de idade.
* Chris Martin chegou a trabalhar como pintor de cartazes.
